The Higher Education Students Loans Board (HESLB) has disbursed Sh72 billion to 21,677 out of the 30,000 fresh students, who had applied for the loan in the second batch of loan disbursement.

Dar es Salaam. The Higher Education Students Loans Board (HESLB) has disbursed Sh72 billion to 21,677 out of the 30,000 fresh students, who had applied for the loan in the second batch of loan disbursement.

This was revealed by HESLB Director General Abdul-Razaq Badru in a statement issued to the media. Mr Badru said the remaining 8,323 fresh students will be allocated loans amounting to Sh36.6 billion.

The government had allocated Sh108 billion as loans to 30,000 new students. On October 18, HESLB released a list of 10,196 students, who successful acquired Sh34.6 billion.

Mr Badru added that the list of successful applicants in the second batch is available at HESLB website www.heslb.go.tz and will be sent to higher learning institutions.

Sickle cell Programme is a research programme in the Department of Haematology and
Blood Transfusion at Muhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. The programme conducts biomedical research, Supports health care, Advocacy and Training. The Sickle cell Programme is currently having a volunteer position for highly motivated and result driven individual interested in working in the health sector.
LABORATORY SCIENTIST VOLUNTEER (1 POST)
Reports to the Programme Coordinator of the programme.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Prepare items and Perform phlebotomy when need arise.
  2. Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical procedures on all specimens and control material received including but not limited to registration, separation and storage.
  3. Perform testing in Serology, Haematology, Chemistry, Clinical microscopy, PCR and micro nutrients
  4. Reporting abnormal results to the Lab Manager or Programme Coordinator.
  5. Checking and completing all the laboratory results in Laboratory Information System or register book before validation/verification by a laboratory manager/Programme coordinator.
  6. Archive all the source documents after testing in the appropriate files.
  7. Ensure accurate sample coordination and delivery.
  8. Prepare specimen for shipping on the samples received according to the SOPs.
  9. Documentation of daily operation, recalibration, preventive maintenance service and repair of the machines/analyzers in the operational, reagent, calibration, maintenance and corrective action logs.
  10. Archive all the source documents after testing in the appropriate files.
  11. Adhere to stock control procedures.
  12. Prepare summary reports of the machines/analyzers at the end of every month.
  13. Troubleshoot any technical faults of the machine using operator’s guide manual.
  14. Ensure that the Lab Manager/ Programme Coordinator are advised of any problems with the equipment.
  15. Any other duties as assigned by but not limited to the Lab Manager/ Programme Coordinator.
QUALIFICATION SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Sciences
• Strong computer Knowledge in Microsoft office
• At least 1 year of working experience in the laboratory field
• Good work ethics and a desire to make a difference
• Goal driven with strong attitude and commitment towards clinical research work particularly in Sickle Cell Disease.
• Prioritizing of tasks and good time management
• Excellent report writing skills
• Ability to multi-task and handle pressure well
• Flexibility and ability to work within a multi- cultural environment

As provided in Sections (12) (2) (a) (b) (c) of the Universities Act Cap. 346 of the laws of Tanzania read together with regulation 31 (2) (3) (4), the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) is mandated to coordinate admissions to Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs) in Tanzania. According to Section 5(1) (f) the  Universities Act Cap.346 grants TCU the mandate to establish transfer procedures for students wishing to transfer from one university to another and from one programme to another. In view of its obligation, TCU issued the new procedures for handling the inter-university students’ transfers which were in
operation since 2016/17 academic year. The motive is to keep track for student’s academic life cycle, to update admission status of the students and keep record of the same in a manner that brings harmony and hereby promotes the quality assurance of higher education system in the country.
