History
Prior to the creation of the Geita Region in March 2012, the Geita District was part of the Mwanza Region.
Transport
Road: Paved trunk road T4 from Mwanza to Bukoba passes through the district from east to west.
Economy
Mining: Geita Gold Mine is located within Geita District, 4km west of the town of Geita. The mine is currently being owned and managed by AngloGold Ashanti.
Tourism
Rubondo Island National Park is located on an island in Lake Victoria that is a part of Geita District. It can be reached by ferry from Nkome, a village in the north of the district.

Position Summary

IHI is looking for a qualified candidate to fill a vacant position of Lab Technician to support research work at the IHI Insectary in Bagamoyo under the The TranSMIT (Transmission from submicroscopic malaria in Tanzania) project.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate all activities associated with rearing and maintenance of gambiae s.s (Ifakara) for the TranSMIT project.
  • Ensure there are adequate numbers of gambiae s.s (Ifakara) mosquitoes for mosquito experimental infections for the TranSMIT project and other projects as well.
  • Closely work with other technicians within the insectary to ensure proper maintenance of mosquito colonies and adequate availability of mosquito numbers for
  • Attend weekly insectary meetings and provide summary
  • Execute daily work instructions received from the supervisor in a timely
  • Conduct any other activities deemed as necessary within the framework of the project and upon direction of the Principal Investigator of





Qualification and Experience

 

  • Holder of diploma in medical laboratory, clinical medicine and health laboratory
  • Relevant experience of working within a research
  • Experience of developing and following laboratory
  • Previous experience of working with live insects.

 

Skills and Competencies

 

  • Knowledge of malaria vector biology
  • Ability to achieve set objectives independent of day-day
  • Ability to work as an integral and cooperative member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-national research
  • Adaptable and able to work under different hot and humid conditions (insectary).

OVERVIEW:

The Global Health Supply Chain Program Technical Assistance – Tanzania (GHSC TA-TZ) project, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), provides expert technical assistance to Tanzania to strengthen country supply chain systems across all health elements, e.g., malaria, family planning (FP), HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and maternal, reproductive, newborn and child health (RMNCH). In coordination with in-country and development partners, GHSC-TA-TZ assists Government of Tanzania health programs by providing strategic planning and implementation assistance; improving the delivery of health commodities to service sites; providing capacity building support to broaden stakeholders’ understanding and engagement of the supply chain system; and strengthening enabling environments to improve supply chain performance.

SUMMARY:

GHSC TA-TZ is recruiting for Program Officer to provide operational and administrative support for the implementation of work plan activities, including but not limited assisting in monitoring annual work plans, liaising with technical and operational staff on various technical and operational program areas as well as lead management of I arge scale technical activities such as workshops, trainings, and conferences such as the Annual Supply Chain Summit.

Additionally, this position will provide operational support to ensure project materials are filled according to internal protocol and administer internal and external meetings with clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Ensure all project deliverables are in project approved templates.
  • Manage the project’s filing system and ensure all final deliverables are organized and saved appropriately.
  • Work with technical teams and other project staff to track deliverable.
  • Assist in development of project materials and information.
  • Coordinate with project staff to ensure approved project reports/ success stories and other public materials are on the appropriate project website as necessary.
  • Provide support to technical staff on preparation of presentations or documentation
  • Support project teams in planning and administrative implementation of training and workshops such as but not limited to paying out per diem rates, organizing conference facilities and booking venues, liaising with vendors.
  • Coordinate international and local travel.

  • Support in the planning, development, and execution of the Tanzania Health Supply Chain Summit including:
  • Convene summit planning committee.
  • Finalize theme, topics, and timetable for the summit.
  • Execute marketing plan for the summit, and ensure that communication on conferences are timely, and communicated through relevant channels and reach relevant audiences.
  • Manage participant registration.
  • Confirm attendance of keynote speakers and other speakers/presenters, and ensure they understand logistics around their presentations (time, format, etc.)
  • Liaise with venue to ensure success of summit.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for the summit.
  • Process all requests such as room set-up, catering needs and audio visual device requirements.
  • Prepare travel arrangements for participants, both international and local as appropriate.
  • Print conference materials and prepare welcome packets.
  • Coordinate post summit review by soliciting feedbacks; prepare and disseminate post event reports.
  • Maintain high-level of professionalism and competence when dealing with clients

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Applicants for this position should be Tanzanian nationals or lawful residents who possess the following minimum qualifications:
  • A degree in public health, supply chain management, business administration, public administration, and advanced diploma in related studies
  • Ability to take initiative and work in teams.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Swahili.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft -Word, -Excel and -Office.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

  • Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment.   • Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
  • Identifying Sexual and Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Must be knowing and aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) kit.

To apply for the apprenticeship program, you must be a recent Graduate (0-4 years post-graduation) and hold a bachelor’s degree/Higher National Diploma or equivalent in a public or accredited private academic institution in the following fields;

 

  • Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Industrial, Mechatronics, Environmental; Chemical; Process)
  • Food Science and Technology; Biochemistry; Microbiology
  • You’ll need to have a CGPA of 3.00+ out of 5 or equivalent

 

What you will need:

 

  • Evidence of excellence in the stated fields
  • Desire to gain professional experience and incredibly eager to learn and explore possibilities.
  • Strong listening oral and written communication skills.
  • Ambition to learn with a high attention to detail and pride in your work
