FRI is inviting application for the positions of ICT Department Volunteer and Program Department Volunteer in Tanzania. The ICT Department Volunteer is responsible to support Farm Radio International’s (FRI) country office in Tanzania with all ICT related matters such as use of modern ICT approaches including online and mobile services. The Program Department volunteer will be responsible of supporting the implementation of different project in country. Source: Mkaguzi
Both positions include regular traveling within Tanzania to support partners as well as projects as needed.

JD for Program Department volunteer

Position title: Program Department Volunteer
Position Location: Arusha, with regular travels to work in rural Tanzania 
Reports to: Country Head of Programs, Arusha- Tanzania Office
Contract term: Three months with possible extension
Deadline: 1st August 2018

Responsibilities include:

1. Project Planning
• Preparation of work plans and operation plans for various components of the project on monthly, quarterly and annual basis
• Monitor project progress on regular basis and give suggestions to Projects Coordinator on timely manner for corrective actions.

2. Project Implementation
• Support & Implements all aspects of project implementation processes and development as required and requested
• Actively assist and participate in project events (meetings/workshops/trainings)
• Assist in carrying out pre-broadcast research including Baseline Survey, Rapid Appraisals, Formative Research & Outcome evaluation

3. Reporting
• Reporting on project activities and expenditure and according to project timeframes
• Preparing of monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

4. Project Monitoring and Evaluation
• Be responsible for monitoring and supervision of activities implemented in the project’s sites to ensure effective implementation.
• Responsible for managing project database and other M&E tools.
• Conduct summative or outcome evaluation with communities

Position Requirements
• Minimum 1 years of experience in implementing communication for development projects especially in the areas of: participatory radio campaigns, ICT for development, communication research for development, using radio for community mobilization and project cycle management is mandatory.
• A Bachelor degree in mass communication, journalism, agricultural communication, agricultural education, agricultural economics and extension or related field is required.
• Proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams, as well as to develop a network of contacts among partner radio stations, government officials, and non-government staff if necessary.

• Deep respect for the traditional knowledge, wisdom and capabilities of women and men smallholder farmers
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral, are required.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with community organizations, government officials, general public and staff;
• Demonstration of honesty, transparency, accountability;
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Project)
• Must be willing and able to travel within Tanzania up to 50% of the time




 

JD for ICT Department volunteer

Position title: ICT Department Volunteer

Job Description- ICT department volunteer

Responsibilities include:
● ICT volunteer will provide technical and training support on Radio & ICT services to Radio stations, extension and farming partners in Tanzania in order to maximize interactivity between radios and their farmer listeners, including:
o SMS: incoming, reminders and registration of farmers
o IVR + voice services: maintaining “call outs” to farmers with weather, market and agricultural tips played as audio messages over the phone
o Flash/missed call 2Vote: Provide support to broadcasters in setting up the weekly beep-2-vote services.
o Maintain the Beep-2-vote phones. Making sure the phones are working fine for the beep-2-vote services.

o Administer Mobenzi: ensure that surveys and phones for all country projects using Mobenzi are well taken care of
o Android tablet: Used to communicate between project staff and radio station staff
● Provide technical and training support to FRI project staff in Tanzania on ICT tools used by Farm Radio International for operational work.
● Working with the project staff to follow up with the CLG’s feedback.
● Following up with the broadcasters for weekly beep-2-vote services.
● Working and following up with the broadcasters to create jingles to promote the services.
● Maintain and manage FRI office IT equipment

● Periodic travel in Tanzania to the Radio Stations and in the fields.
● Translation of content between Swahili and English as needed
● Preparing ICT weekly/monthly ICT data for reporting purpose

Position requirements:
● Minimum 1 years of experience in implementing communication for development projects especially in the areas of: participatory radio campaigns, ICT for development, communication research for development, using radio for community mobilization and project cycle management is mandatory.
● A Bachelor degree/Diploma in Computer science or Information Systems/Network Engineering or related field is required.
● Experience and highly comfortable working with all aspects of mobile technologies
● Good confident and patient trainer to help radio broadcasters with ICT services

● Experience with computer networking and maintenance
● Experience with customer support – remotely (email/phone) and face to face
● Good communication skills to be able to communicate technology to non-techy people
● Display high competency in working with the team
● Open to learning and be flexible, and Good command of English & Swahili
