The Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) is the primary organization for registration of premises, products and issuance of licenses to businesses trading products related to food, drugs, cosmetics and medical services.
The objective of TFDA is to protect the health of consumers against hazards associated with food, drugs, herbal drugs, cosmetics and medical devices.
Any person interested in selling, storing or manufacturing of food, drugs and medical devices must register the business premise with TFDA before commencing the business operation. In addition, he/she should obtain business license for trading specific product.
TFDA in collaboration with Muhimbili University for Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) are implementing a 5 year Project acronymed PROFORMA under the grant obtained from the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP).
The PROFORMA project aims at strengthening the pharmacovigilance system in Tanzania.
