GGML Internship Programme:
Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) has been a strong supporter to the government initiatives to enhance graduates employability in Tanzania, having implemented internships and other graduate programmes for several years. GGML is contributing towards skills development in Tanzania by providing graduates with opportunities to gain work experience in various skills areas. The internship Programme provides an opportunity to unemployed graduates to gain meaningful work experience that will complement their studies and provide them with experience that could help them gain access to the labour market. The internship is for a fixed term and there is no guarantee of any offer of employment on completion of the internship.

At the minimum, GGML Internship Programme shall be undertaken in accordance with the “National Internship Guidelines” as published by the Prime Minister’s Office, Labor, Youth, Employment and Disability in September, 2017.

Duration and Allowance:

The internship programme is implemented for twelve (12) months period only and there is no guarantee of any offer of employment on completion of the internship.

GGML shall provide a monthly internship allowance to cover for incidental costs associated with the internship programme.

BACKGROUND
UN in Tanzania employ over 1,400 personnel countrywide in 20+ Duty Stations. As a mandatory Security Risk Management (SRM) measure in Tanzania the United Nations operate a UN Security Communications System for voice and data communications, consisting of wireless (4G, UHF, VHF, HF, Satellite), the land line telecommunication (telephone, IP) the electronic Travel Advisory Application (eTA-App) with its international messaging function and agency specific warden messaging systems.

The accountability for operation and maintenance of the common Security Communications System (SCS) lies with the UNDSS Security Advisor (Security Policy Manual). The infrastructure is funded by the Locally Cost Shared Security Budget (LCSSB). It consists of
•    A 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) in Dar es Salaam,
•    VHF repeaters outside the capital city, linked to the SOC via Internet Provider (IP)
•    IP based tracking and messaging services/applications

Radio Rooms and/or VHF repeaters, operated by personnel of Agencies, Funds and Programmes for their individual operational purposes (i.e. agency specific mission tracking, premises security etc.) will be linked to the common SCS and follow the same Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor all radio communications, including tracking of UN vehicles and staff movements, to ensure efficient, 24-hour coverage of Security Communications;
  • Collect, compile, disseminate and broadcast security and safety related information on behalf of the Designated Official/Security Advisor;
  • Use UNDSS IT-tools and apps for travel monitoring and emergency notifications (TRIP, UNSMIN, ETA etc.)
  • Disseminate other security related communication through the available electronic channels incl, personal messaging (PM) services and APPs;
  • Conduct regular communications checks and keep track of participation, filing weekly compliance reports
  • Coordinate and support the implementation of emergency- and contingency plans and operations of agency specific warden systems;
  • Routine- and incident reporting to the UNDSS Security Advisor as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Implement all other SOPs for the United Nations Security Communications System in Tanzania;
  • Support operability, repair, maintenance, and inventory of common SCS-equipment;
  • Support UNDSS-led training of UN personnel in the use of emergency telecommunications equipment and tools;

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
Secondary Education, Certificate in Radio operating field is desirable and University Degree in related field is an asset

BACKGROUND
Globally there has been a rising risk of Violent Extremism (VE), which has a direct negative impact on peace, security and sustainable development. In 2016 the UN Secretary General presented a Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism to the UN General Assembly that provides a framework to tackle violent extremism through preventive measures addressing the drivers. The Plan calls for national and regional Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) action plans and encourages member states to align their development policies with the Sustainable Development Goals, many of which are critical to addressing global drivers of violent extremism and enhancing community resilience. In particular, Goal 16 on the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development. In support of this developmental approach, UNDP is implementing a project, “Preventing and Responding to Violent Extremism in Tanzania”, whose main objective is to support a preventive and developmental national effort for preventing and responding to violent extremism. The main counterpart of the project is the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), which is responsible for coordination on PVE work in Tanzania, as well as preparation of the envisaged National Strategy and Action Plan. The project also involves relevant Government line Ministries, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, the Tanzania Police Force, faith based organizations, civil society organizations and other UN agencies.

The indicative outputs of the project are:

National policy framework and intervention capacities strengthened to address the phenomenon of violent extremism
Improved interaction between security providers and local population in target areas
Increased livelihood opportunities for “at risk” youth in target areas
Responsible, quality and conflict sensitive news reporting supported, and public awareness and dialogue around violent extremism promoted
Community resilience to violent extremism strengthened
Understanding of violent extremism in Tanzania improved, better managed, and applied to prevention and response efforts
Gender and women’s active participation across all efforts to prevent and respond to extreme violence promoted in Tanzania.

The project is divided into two phases: a first phase focused on research, support to the inclusive preparation of a National Strategy and Action Plan, and the implementation of pilot projects in Zanzibar, Mwanza, Tanga, Pwani, Lindi and Mtwara. The second phase is dedicated to support implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan once approved and adopted by relevant authorities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme and the strategic guidance of the Technical Specialist, the National Project Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring delivery and reporting of project results; promoting effective and efficient management of the project through result-based work plans, progress reporting, audits, monitoring and evaluation process;
  • Strengthening coordination and collaboration with stakeholders; participating in resource mobilization and sustaining strategic engagement and partnership with development partners and donors;
  • Regular analysis of situational factors driving violent extremism and radicalization; development of knowledge products; and supervision, coordination and leadership responsibilities over field staff and the project support team assigned to the project;
  • The National Project Coordinator is accountable and responsible for the day-to-day management of the project and oversees its implementation process according to the Project Document and approved Project Work Plans;
  • Supports the project implementation process with relevant stakeholders such as the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Government entities,, CSO’s, Academic institutions, donors and partners as necessary in order to ensure the coherence of the project;
  • Provides technical support for strategic planning and decision-making in project implementation;
  • Ensures the preparation and submission of high quality annual work plans, prepares results framework for each output and establishes performance and results reporting;
  • Ensures the establishment and regular monitoring of the project M&E framework, risk log, issues log, and quality log; and ensures preparation of audits, annual reviews, mid-term and final evaluations;
  • Ensures the mainstreaming of relevant issues such as Gender, Human Rights etc;
  • Supervises and organizes the Project Support and field teams for effective and efficient realization of project outputs;
  • Oversees project procurement, finance, and human resource matters;
  • Ensures the compliance of project implementation with UNDP rules, regulations and policies;
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other UN agencies, as well as other responsible partners under the project to link and harmonize approaches and promote innovations and lessons in achievements of common results
  • Participates in resource mobilization and sustaining strategic engagement and partnership with development partners and donors;
  • Develops and strengthens links with local, regional and international partners to promote the activities;
  • Undertakes any other responsibilities as may be assigned

How To Apply For New Zealand Scholarships For International Students

The final selection will be made by the Victoria Research Scholarships Committee on those applicants who have been put forward by the relevant School and Faculty.

Offers of Wellington Doctoral Scholarships will be made approximately six weeks after each closing date in November of the year of application. As some applicants may decline an offer further offers may be made, it is possible that some applicants will not be finally notified of the success or otherwise of their applications three months after application.

PLUMBER II (2 POST)

Reports To: Technical Manager

Direct Entry Qualifications:

holder of a Certificate of Secondary Education, or Trade Test III or Level I or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Repairing water leakage
Inspecting transmission and reporting deviation
Report unauthorized water connections, maintain records of water theft incidences o Carry out water disconnection of debtors and reconnection after payments
Maintain proper records of water connections/disconnection reconnection carried out
Perform any other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Direct Entry Qualifications

Holder of a Diploma/FTC in Water Laboratory Technology or its equivalent from a recognized and a reputable Institution and must be a computer literate.

Duties and Responsibilities.

Carry out water sample tests every day in order to establish the types and quantities of water treatment.
Carry out analysis of raw water and treated water.
Collect water samples at different parts of the water treatment plant for analysis and recording;
Carry out water and waste water treatment processes.
Carry out physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of water and waste water. o Ensure that equipment in the laboratory are in working order by requesting regular servicing and regular calibration:
Draft periodical performance reports on laboratory activities.
Monitor water quality and quantity from reservoir and other water sources, water treatment plants and water distribution systems and ensures compliance with the prescribed Tanzania standards for drinking water and advice accordingly.
Perform any other duties assigned by Supervisor.
