ASSISTANT MEDICAL OFFICERS

Maternity Africa is a local nonprofit organization in Tanzania, devoted to helping make child birth safe and treating obstetrical fistulas. We support local communities, provide information to keep mothers and babies healthy, as well as excellent medical care and training to ensure safer deliveries. Duties and Responsibilities

To provide opinion and management for all outpatients and inpatients at the midwife’s request. Support labour ward and antenatal/ postnatal ward and give medical assistance when asked. Perform assisted deliveries and cesarean section and manage all complications of pregnancy and labour. Attend all obstetric emergencies when on call and follow through the management. Attend all patients with early pregnancy complications and see through their medical management. Be responsible for the medical care of all patients within the hospital. To mentor and support midwives and other health professionals. To assist during fistula camps- assist with screening patients, inpatient care and assist in theatres. Do on call service, including weekends and nights as per Kivulini Maternity Centre roster. To ensure all medical documentation is filled correctly and on time. Take on any other roles and responsibilities that arise in the day to day running of the centre as defined by the management team

Qualifications and Requirements
Holder of Advanced Diploma in Clinical Medicine from an accredited institution Must have been registered with the Tanzania Medical Board. Must have at least three (3) years of professional working experience. Be a safe practitioner Have the right attitude – Willingness to learn Be an effective Communicator Emphatic

LABORATORY TECHNICIANS

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform routine tests in assigned area of the laboratory as per current SOP To ensure specimens collected and received are documented or managed properly before analysis To evaluate specimen adequacy for test performance To perform and document preventative and corrective maintenance, function checks. To perform, evaluate and document quality control data and assure that patient results are reported when quality control does not pass To ensure safe working environment in the working Clinical Laboratory To perform instrument troubleshooting to correct problems Refer client’s inquiries to relevant clinicians To ensure specimens collected and received are well documented Ensure timely provision of various reports to laboratory To ensure valid results are verified before dispatch and are sent to the clinics/wards in a timely fashion Draw blood from all Booking patients for Antenatal clinic, see specific booking blood request form Be able to give appropriate counselling for HIV testing Liaise with procurement officer on a timely basis for procurement of reagents Maintain a Blood bank, with emergency blood available whenever possible. Remain a confidential approach to patients’ blood results Maintain the cleanliness and order of the laboratory Use universal precautions when drawing and disposing of samples Perform any other duties as directed by the supervisor

Qualifications and Requirements

A minimum of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, or related fields from a recognized Institution Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience. She/he must be certified as Medical Laboratory Technologist. Must have the skills of analyzing samples using diverse techniques including. A proven ability to work in a team under minimal supervision, well written and oral communication skills in English and Swahili are also required. Must be knowledgeable about parasitology, biochemistry, haematology and microbiology. Strong analytical skills Technical proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

MEDICAL ATTENDANTS

Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out general cleaning of the wards and its surrounding Strip and make beds, changing bed linens, which may require lifting bedspreads; dust all furniture, pictures, drawers, window ledges, and shelves thoroughly Transport patients in wheelchairs or on movable beds around the hospital Move medical equipment between wards, departments and theatres Maintain stocks of clean clothing and linen for patients Remove soiled clothing and linen items for cleaning to the laundry Lift and turn patients Restocking the ward Assist with taking samples and collecting results from the lab Assist in giving patients bed baths or helping up to the bathroom Assist with changing Chlorine water, soapy water and clean water in sluice room, for the disinfecting of instruments and keeping it tidy Adhering to infection control procedures Assist with Autoclaving of instruments Assisting with Health Education for patients when appropriate Complete data collection sheets as required Perform any other related duties as required by the supervisor

Qualifications and Requirements

Holder of an Ordinary Secondary School Certificate
Working experience Preferred.
Must have a Pre-Nursing Certificate from recognized institution. Basic Medical Knowledge Knowledge of Safety and Sanitation Patience

MIDWIVES

Duties and Responsibilities

Attend daily bed to bed ward round of patients Complete the inpatient record sheet appropriately every morning at handover Ensure compliance of day to day clinical duties as allocated and required within the unit-including clinic, wards, delivery suite and theatres Adopt appropriate role in the transfer of woman between clinical areas of the unit – clinic wards, labour ward and theatres Adhere to the documentation and data collection systems and ensure accuracy for the clinical area Maintain the delivery register for accurate data collection Ensure sterilization of delivery and dressing packs has been undertaken appropriately Ensure clinical waste is disposed of appropriately Provide health education advice to antenatal and postnatal women and families including family planning counselling and advice Support all other nursing/midwifery and support staff in the clinical area Adhere to the monthly rostas for the maternity unit-including working day/night duty and weekends on rotation Ready to work in rotations in all the clinical departments Take on any other roles and responsibilities that arise in the day to day running of the centre as defined by the management team

Qualifications and Requirements

A minimum of a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Must be registered by Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council Desired 2 years’ professional experience. Family Planning Experience will be and added Advantage Be a safe practitioner Have the right attitude – Willingness to learn Be an effective Communicator Emphatic

 

THEATER ASSISTANT NURSES

Duties and Responsibilities

Keeping the theatre clean and all autoclaving done. Scrub and assist surgeons Ensure patient safety and maintain a high standard of nursing care Re-stock equipment/supplies as needed Clean surgical instruments Maintain sterility in the theatre, recovery room, autoclave room etc Circulate during operations Document nursing care and patient condition in appropriate documents Documentation both in the theatre and in the recovery area Understand the proper use of all equipment used in the theatre and the recovery room (Diathermy, pulse Oximeter, suction machine, light source, theatre beds, defibrillator and autoclave.) Ensure safety of equipment during use, as well as when moving it from one unit to another. Oversee care for patients as they wake from surgery Perform any other duties related to the role as directed by the supervisor

 

Qualifications and Requirements

A minimum Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery or Pre-Nursing Certificate. Experience working in theatre preferred Be a safe practitioner Have the right attitude, willingness to learn. Be an effective Communicator

 

PHARMACY TECHNICIANS

Duties and Responsibilities
Check prescriptions to make sure there are no errors and that they’re appropriate and safe for the individual patient Liaise with other medical staff on problems patients may experience when taking their medicines Make sure medicines are stored and disposed-off appropriately and securely Keep up to date with, and contribute to, research and development Write guidelines for drug use and disposal within the hospital and implement hospital regulations Provide information on expenditure on drugs Prepare and quality-check sterile medications, for example, intravenous medications Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals, counselling patients on drug therapies. Complies with Tanzania drug laws as regulated by National Pharmacy Council of Tanzania. Liaise with Clinical lead in each area Restocking all clinical areas on a daily basis Monday to Friday Ensuring stocks do not become depleted – reordering supplies in good time, liaising with the procurement officer. Maintain a drug usage register Monitoring the controlled drug books (Misoprostol and Pethidine) Complete all relevant data collection sheets Making regular reconciliation of drugs dispensed against issues. Performing any other duties related to the role as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

A minimum of a Diploma in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science or its Equivalent from a recognised Institution
Must be registered by the National Pharmacy Council of Tanzania. Preferred Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience. Accurate and details oriented Effective Communicator
