Position Summary 

IHI is looking for experienced Fieldworkers /Entomology Technicians to work in the Broad One Health Endectocide-based Malaria Interventions in Africa (BOHEMIA) project. Among other duties, the Fieldworkers will be required to conduct mosquito trapping and collections, larval collections from field during evaluation of impact of repeated ivermectin MDA on vector populations and their transmission activities in Rufiji and Kibiti Districts.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct laboratory, semi-field and field experiments as required by the assistant entomologists.
  • Conduct field trapping of mosquitoes from selected clusters as required by the assistant entomologist.
  • Ensure all data and samples collected from semi-field experiments and from field are properly kept in the storage tubes and boxes as well as labelled.
  • Maintain all field equipment and consumables during mosquito trapping and collections as well as laboratory equipment and consumables in good order.
  • Maintain continuous good relationship with community members in the study area to ensure smooth running of project activities in the villages.
  • Conduct all activities associated with mosquito rearing and maintenance in the insectary and semi-field conditions for project experiments.
  • Ensure mosquitoes from field and insectary (reference strains) are adequate for project experiments when required.
  • Routinely attending weekly meetings as set by the supervisors.
  • Conduct any other tasks assigned by the Senior Entomologist or Assistant Entomologist.

 

Qualification and Experience

 

  • Form IV or Form VI on science subjects preferably Chemistry and Biology; holder of certificates or diploma in related field like medical laboratory, environmental science, vector control, medical entomology will be an added advantage
  • Previous Experience of at least 2 years, preferably working with EHES or any other entomology department, on field entomological surveys, mosquito handling and rearing, mosquito taxonomy, mosquito dissection, laboratory, field and semi-field entomological bioassays will be a significant importance.

 

 Skills and Competencies

 

  • Good understanding of mosquito collection techniques, mosquito identification, and entomological experiments in the laboratory, semi-field and field environments.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and follow entomological protocols, guidelines and SOPs.
  • Self-motivated individual who is able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in research team.
  • Ability to achieve set goals.
  • Good oral communications in English and Swahili.

Mosquito NET Project

Reports to: Project Leader

Position Summary 

IHI is looking for a Research Officer – Intern who will participate in research with MosquitoNET projects in Ifakara within the Environmental and Ecological Science (EHES) department. The Intern will participate in the publication of manuscript in internationally recognized peer reviewed journals. Assisted by the Research Scientist, the Intern will write research proposals for funding and will prepare project progress reports and cconduct presentations to EHES staff and IHI scientists when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities General Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare progress reports and outcomes of project research activities from time to time, by way of electronic or printed monthly reports, and perform institutional presentations, in relevant IHI scientific conferences.
  • Write and publish high-quality scientific papers on research work in peer-reviewed and internationally recognized journals.
  • Ensure all samples collected during the studies are properly managed, stored and analysed as per the objective protocols.
  • Ensure all project-related equipment are maintained in good order and custody
  • To Develop and pursue a master’s research fellowship grant and university enrolment with the support from Team leader/Supervisor.

 




Scientific Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise the technical staff, volunteers and field workers working within the project.
  • Ensure that all relevant quality control procedures and ethical guidelines are adhered to and that any deviations are properly documented and reported during all project activities and by requirements of good experimental practices.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the project leader.

 

Qualification and Experience

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics /Statistics or Biotechnology and Laboratory sciences.
  • Fresh from university with 3.5 GPA and above.

Position Summary 

IHI is looking for a Research Officer – Intern who will participate in research for the Broad One Health Endectocide-Based Malaria Intervention in Africa (Bohemia). The BOHEMIA program is embedded with two department of Environmental Sciences and Health system sciences. The Intern will participate to work the package under Health systems to prepare SOPs for achieve, supervise records management clerks on labeling, scanning, storing and filling program documents prepare reports and do presentation on achieving.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Review SOPs for achieving Bohemia program documents.
  • Documents are archived according to standard operating procedure (SOP).
  • Ensure the archive cabinets are labeled appropriately for each section of the archive.
  • Ensure all ICFs from the field are well received as per ICF collection SOP.
  • Ensure ICFs from the field are well sorted, reviewed and verified for correctness and completeness.
  • Make all files/folders that are used to store the ICFs are well named/coded.
  • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of research materials.
  • Producing filing reports every week from the database.
  • Updating Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training whenever needed.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualification and Experience

 

  • Bachelor of science Health System Management or System Information.
  • Bachelor of records management.
  • Fresh from the University.
