The Orange Knowledge Programme aims to contribute to a society’s sustainable and inclusive development. Its scholarships are open to mid-career professionals in specific countries.

Scholarships are available for a selection of:

  • short courses (duration 2 weeks to 12 months);
  • master’s programmes (duration 12 to 24 months).

Funding and management

This 5-year programme is initiated and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Nuffic.

Requirements

The Orange Knowledge Programme individual scholarships are open to mid-career professionals, who are nationals of – and living and working in – the following countries:

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Colombia, Congo (DRC), Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar,

Niger, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen and Zambia.





For whom: criteria
An OKP scholarship is intended to supplement the salary that you should continue to receive during the scholarship period. The scholarship is a contribution towards your costs of living and costs such as tuition fees, visa, travel, insurance etc. You have to cover any difference between the OKP scholarship amount and the actual costs yourself.
You must meet a number of criteria that support the aim of the OKP to be eligible for a scholarship.

The criteria for scholarship applicant are as follows:
• The scholarship applicant works for one of the following types of national and/or local organisations: ministries, secondary or higher vocational or academic education institutions, universities, private sector, commissions or NGOs. The scholarship applicant
may not work for:
o a bilateral or multilateral organisation;
o a non-governmental organisation that is internationally active and is focused on representing social interests, such as development cooperation, nature and environmental protection, health or human rights.
• The scholarship applicant is a professional who, in light of his/her (1) role, (2) multiple years of relevant work experience and (3) networks within a theme relevant to local development, is in a position or through his/her employer could be put in a position to apply what he/she has learned in practice.
• The scholarship applicant holds the nationality of and is resident and working in one of the countries on the OKP Country list (see the document ‘Country List for Short courses and Masters – OKP’ on www.studyinholland.nl/okp )

Deadlines

The 3 expected candidate application rounds for individual scholarships are:

  • Round 1: 3 February-23 March 2021 (for courses starting between between 26 July and 21 November 2021)
  • Round 2: 12 May-29 June 2021 (for Short Courses starting between 22 November 2021 and 20 February 2022)
  • Round 3: 1 September-12 October 2021 (for Short Courses starting on or after 21 February 2022 and ending before 31 August 2022)

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Candidates register with their Dutch education institution
  2. Dutch institution nominates candidates and submits grant application
  3. Embassies check eligibility and assess applications
  4. Selection results published
  5. Grants awarded

Project Support Officer – East Africa

BACKGROUND:

TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. We are now looking to expand our Project support team based in TRAFFIC’S East Africa Office in Tanzania.

TRAFFIC is a strategic alliance of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and is an international network, active on five continents.

TRAFFIC implements a diverse portfolio of work funded by a variety of donors in the government and private sector. This position provides support to the management of projects to ensure that project implementing teams operate effectively, on time and according to donor requirements. The Project Support Officer will work closely with East Africa’s Project Managers and administrators and wider project implementation staff.




OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provides technical support on a range of East Africa’s projects from the trade in timber, bushmeat and species such as birds, reptiles and fish;
  • Works with Project leads to ensure the timely preparation and submission of project reports, and any other documents required by donors, including review and quality control elements;
  • Supports on proposal development and proposal submissions;
  • Supports as needed with project administration including scheduling meeting, writing minutes and agendas and circulating reference material for preparation of meetings;
  • Attends training on technical matters as well as Donor requirements, including keeping up to date on Donor rules and regulations; and,
  • Supports the East Africa Team as needed to ensure projects have a lasting impact.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

 

  • Be educated to a university degree level in a relevant science discipline (i.e. biology/zoology/ecology, environmental studies, wildlife management).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working on wildlife conservation.
  • A willingness and ability to travel frequently and widely within the region and to work under pressure.
  • Experience in in project planning and implementation.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili is essential.
  • Familiarity with standard word processing, spreadsheet, presentation (ppt), and data base software, and with electronic communication technology.
  • Be eligible to work in Tanzania.

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Manage all F&B and day-to-day operations within budgeted guidelines and to the highest standards.
  • To assist in menu planning and pricing.

You are an experienced photographer based in Tanzania. Here is an assignment to work alongside the International Trade Centre (ITC) in taking photographs and writing short descriptions of the work of a series of coffee producers. The goal of the assignment is to take attractive photos of the coffee production, people and communities of around 10 such coffee producers. The output will be used to complete websites and in social media to promote the coffees toward international buyers.




Deliverables

For each coffee SME:

 

  • At least 30 high quality photos, taken using a digital SLR camera (or superior) of at least 12 MP (native, no up-sampling)
  • Photos must show a subject of interest, be in good light and have a good composition
  • At least 3 explanatory sentences for each photo
  • At least 1 interview of at least 150 words with a representative of the coffee producer (preferably the owner or manager)
  • One short video (2-3 minutes) per company – to be confirmed –

 

Steps

 

  • Attend a short briefing with ITC’s consultant
  • Organise photo RDV’s with assistance of local consultant (marketing coach and/or national coordinator)

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

ROLE PURPOSE:

This one year fixed term contract for a senior HR and Admin Director is a cover role whilst the incumbent departs for a one year sabbatical. The HR and Admin Director is a crucial member of the Senior Management Team. A highly experienced HR profession, particularly qualified female candidates are encourage to apply. As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in Tanzania, the Director of HR and Admin shares in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office (CO). SCOPE OF ROLE:

Save the Children began operations in Tanzania in 1986. Currently, the Country Program is implementing development and humanitarian programming in 11 regions in Mainland and Zanzibar in the thematic areas of: child rights governance, child protection, education and health & nutrition. The estimated value of the Country Program’s portfolio for 2021 is $15M. The operating context is very dynamic, affecting the rights of children and the operating environment for all NGOs.

Prepare terms and conditions of employment and issue all employment and consultancy contracts in compliance with Tanzania Labour Law and regional HR best practices

In collaboration with Director of Finance, ensure maintenance of updated information on staff salaries, allowances and income tax calculations in compliance with current laws and regulations

Performance Management and Staff Development

Develop a culture of performance management across the organization, where staff are held accountable and recognised for high performance

Lead implementation and maintenance of performance management system that is in alignment with organizational goals

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Management, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or other related field from renown and accredited University or Bachelors with significant experience

EXPERIENCE

Post: Research Nurse Coordinator

Location: Dar es Salaam

Position summary:

The Research Nurse Coordinator reports to the Local Principal Investigator and serves to ensure seamless operations of the study. She/he will coordinate regulatory needs for the clinical trial and coordinate patient care activities.She/he will serve as a liaison between the Principal Investigator and other study staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinates the clinical trial and patient care: educates staff, patients, and referring health care providers about the trial
  • Collaborates with Investigators to evaluate patients for potential clinical trial participation and eligibility from all relevant clinical services
  • Helps research participants navigate the protocol and the health care system
  • Provides education to participants and caregivers, and colleagues
  • Maintains familiarity with the research protocol
  • Provide technical assistance to health care providers in sickle cell clinic who may engage with study participants
  • Identifies strategies for accomplishing requirements of the protocol Implements and complies with the protocol as written with IRB changes
  • Assists the Principal Investigator with the informed consent process, study monitoring, quality assurance, audits, and data management and analysis•Ensures ongoing participant informed consent
  • Communicates regularly with the Principal Investigator and Houston team•Submits new protocols to the IRB
  • Prepares required IRB and sponsor reports, including safety reports
  • Maintains communication among the study staff and with the IRB
  • Maintains files relating to communication with the IRB and sponsor
  • Completes case report forms
  • Coordinates patient follow up
  • Undertake additional training as directed by the organization
  • Other specific tasks as assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications / Skills

 

  • Holder of a BSN or RN from an accredited institution
  • At least 2 years of experience in clinical research
  • Registered by the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Proficiency in general pediatric and adult medical care
  • Knowledge and experience in general pediatricscare and subspecialty careand treatment
  • Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet computer programs
  • Experience in Project management, report writing, working and coordinating activities with the government and other partners

Certificate of Secondary Education, one year training Certificate In Nursing Assistant or certificate in community Health from recognized Institution. One-year nurse auxiliary course recognized by Ministry of Health and should have at least two years working experience in similar position.


Position Title:  Laboratory Technologist (1 Post) 

Reporting to the Head of Clinic Services, Lab technologist will assist in facilitating the delivery of laboratory services in an efficient and effective manner. Manage Core Lab area (Hematology, Chemistry, Parasitology, Serology, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology and Phlebotomy) including staff planning and evaluation, supervises the technical and administrative staff to ensure day to day running of the Laboratory activities.

Position Title: Cultivation Supervisor (1 POST).

The person will assist the Cultivation Manager in Land preparation, Ratoon mechanical Operation and estate road works across the estate. He will report to Cultivation Manager.

Planning activities of machinery and equipment (Heavy tractors. Excavators, Bulldozers, Graders, Compactors, Tipper Lorries etc.); Supervises activities of machinery and equipment (Heavy tractors, Excavators, Bulldozers, Graders, Compactors, Tipper Lorries etc.); Supervises cultivation activities such as Land preparation (Ploughing, levelling, ripping, harrowing, furrowing etc..), Ratoon mechanical operations and Estate road works; Monitoring and control of performance of machineries and Human resources in the section; Ensures that tractor log sheets and all other control sheets are properly filled by machine operators and update in the database; Manage machines fuel consumption and report for abnormality; Ensures Maintenance of Machines such as regular blowing, cleaning are properly followed and documented; Preparation of section budget and follow up on management accounts; Ensure safety at workplace are adhered; and Perform any other lawful duties as may be assigned by his senior.

Qualification, Experience, and Knowledge

Holder of Bsc. Agricultural Engineering from recognised institution; More than 3years experience sugarcane cultivation activities; Must be proficiency with computer especially MS word, Excel and outlook; Excellent mentoring skills, interpersonal skills, leadership and initiative Skills; Ability to work with minimum supervision; and Must have a valid driving licence as he/she will have to ride a motorbike around the field.


Position Title: Motor Vehicle Technicians (2 Posts)

This person will be responsible for maintenance, diagnostics and repair on Motor vehicles such as Lorries, Pickups, etc.The person will be reporting to Workshop Supervisor.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Keep equipment or tools used for inspecting, maintaining and testing vehicles; Conduct preventive maintenance such as Engine tune -ups, Oil, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing and replacing filters; Maintain vehicles function condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine failures replacing parts and components; Verifies vehicle service ability by conducting test drives, adjusting control and systems; Complies with state vehicles requirement by testing engine safety and combustion control standards; Maintain vehicles appearance by cleaning and washing; Maintain vehicles records by recording service and repair; Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions troubleshooting breakdown maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for service; and to carry out any other lawful work related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualification, Experience, and Knowledge

Must have a Level III certificate in motor vehicle mechanics from a recognized institution; must have working experience of not less than three (3) years in a reputable organization, and Candidates with a Diploma in Automobile Engineering or relevant qualifications will be preferred.


Position Title: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (1 POST)

Electrical engineer design, develop, and test electrical devices and equipment, including communications systems, power generators, motors and navigation systems, and electrical systems for automobiles.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Designing electrical systems or their components; Diagnosing and solving electrical problems with products or systems; Installing, servicing, calibrating and updating electrical systems; Repairing or replacing faulty electrical parts of a product; Developing and testing electrical system prototypes or simulated events and making modifications if required; Contributing to the compilation of user instructions; Conducting inspections to ensure that products or systems are in a safe and usable condition; and Perform any other lawful duties assigned by Supervisors.

Qualifications, Experience and knowledge:

Bachelor of Science degree/ Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electronics; Experience in Budgeting; Ability to use C.A.D; should have attended training on Technical Operations Procedures (TOP’S) and Manpower Development Program (MDP); ISO awareness is also important; Have more than three years’ experience working as full time electrical Engineer.

 JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                

Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MTI obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and new-born caring standards and under the supervision of a specialist doctor, to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                                                   

 

  • Provide comprehensive maternal and child services to mothers during and after pregnancy, including managing complications and referring high risk pregnancies.
  • Responsible for delivering babies, preparing birth attestation and monitoring the general health condition of the mother and the new-born.
  • Assessing the feasibility for referral of pregnant women form the TBAs to the OPD/MCH for medical evaluation and/or complicated deliveries.
  • Provide counselling to mothers on pregnancy and post-pregnancy management, including proper breastfeeding techniques, bathing and preparation of bottles.
  • Participate in PHC activities including health education, family planning, preparing for childbirth, HCT services and nutrition programs, as well as PMTCT activities at the health facility and within the community.
  • Provide primary care to women of reproductive age in accordance with the Basic Package of Health Services.
  • Provide all non-surgical methods of family planning and provide counselling for surgical methods.
  • Ensure babies are immunized according to schedule.
  • Support Clinicians in the management of sexual violence cases.
  • Monitor the consumption of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities and notify supervisor of re-stocking needs.
  • Ensure biomedical equipment is in good working order by using in accordance with user manual and protocols, perform cleaning and minor maintenance and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
  • Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria, including universal precautions, are met.
  • Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Codes of Conduct.
  • Ensure data collected is accurate and submit reports according to schedule.
  • Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace
  • Other duties as assigned.

 EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS                                                                                             

 

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Midwifery from an accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery is required.
  • Valid practising license is required.

 





 EXPERIENCE                                                                                                                                                 

 

  • 3 years of midwifery experience is required.
  • Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage.

 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES   

 

  • Knowledge of professional midwifery principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical and non-medical waste disposal procedures.
  • Knowledge of hygiene management and IPC protocol.
  • Skilled in applying professional midwifery care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A good command of both written and spoken English.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to professional code of conduct.
  • Ability to treat all patients and staff with respect, without prejudice.
  • Ability to provide high quality, ethical, compassionate care that places the needs of the patient first.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage stress.
  • Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS                               

This position requires work at health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.

JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                                                               

The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Medical Teams International staff and other officials and mission members, meeting MTI highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of maturity and responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol, and safety security issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                                                   

 

  • Provide reliable and safe driving services, ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.
  • Keep abreast of traffic rules and regulations as well as road security and safety awareness to enable safe, on-time arrival for any movement including meetings and appointments.
  • Maintain daily vehicle logs, inspections, daily kilometers, fuel consumption, oil change, servicing, greasing, repairs.
  • Prepare and maintain data of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports, awareness of vehicles servicing, required items for services.
  • Ensure that the official vehicle is kept clean and is always in good working order.
  • Supports the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Tracks insurance and applicable tax formalities
  • Make minor repairs and recommendations for major repairs.
  • Change oil, check tires, spare tires, jacks, lights, horn, clutch and brakes and wash car regularly.
  • Ensure that vehicles comply with MTI safety and security standards and reports any conditions of concerns to a Manager.
  • Ensure that communications devices (e.g. cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip
  • Ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel at all times.
  • Follows safe vehicle loading and unloading procedures.
  • Keeps the vehicle clean and free of debris; follows other vehicle cleaning procedures.
  • Maintain and ensure availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and safety and security document, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates staff according to written and practiced procedures.
  • In the event of an accident, assures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written accident report as required by delegate’s procedure and other authorities.
  • Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining required records.
  • Assist in the mailing and distribution of publications and payment of bills, as required.
  • Supports safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, and Child & Vulnerable Adult protection policies and sexual harassment policies.

 

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • Possession of valid Driver’s license, class C, for a minimum of 3 years
  • Attended Vocational Educational and Training Authority would be an added advantage.
  • Certification of defensive driving from a recognized institution preferred.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is required
  • Certification in vehicle mechanics and maintenance is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

  • Preferred: Experience working for INGO Clean driving record is required
  • Minimum heavy vehicle driving in Tanzania is required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

  • Demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different nationality and cultural backgrounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Requires frequent use of mechanics equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee will be operating a motor vehicle to remote areas, where hazardous road conditions are common.
  • Required to drive long distances on unpredictable or unknown terrain in various weather climates.
  • The employee may be required to travel to remote areas of the world where there are potential health hazards and risks, limited hygiene facilities, extreme weather, and very basic living conditions.
