It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org<br \/>\n<b>Key<\/b> <b>responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit three (3) Engineering Technicians for the Accelerated Value Chains Development program (AVCD) to monitor the construction projects on-site to protect ILRI against defects and deficiencies.<br \/>\nILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure that high standards of quality control are maintained on all contracts.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor construction and site development.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor the construction, contract progress, procedures, workmanship, schedule, overall job safety.<\/li>\n<li>Co-ordinate activities between the contractor, the consultants and ILRI<\/li>\n<li>Interpret, implement and reinforce regulatory requirements related to safety and environmental standard for the site.<\/li>\n<li>Notify ILRI, contractor, and the architect of any conditions that may delay completion of the total project or of major parts of the project<\/li>\n<li>Keep track of materials delivered to the site and used by the contractors &amp; sub-contractors to ensure that materials used are those specified, or approved substitutes, and that materials are in good condition and free of defects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diploma in Civil, Building or Construction Engineering or related field<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Auto CAD<\/li>\n<li>Computer Literacy: Microsoft office suite, use of internet and e-mail<\/li>\n<li>3 years of relevant work experience<\/li>\n<li>Have a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal\/ statutory requirements<\/li>\n<li>Accurate and attentive to detail when checking work and materials<\/li>\n<li>Have ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications<\/li>\n<li>Have good spoken and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili<\/li>\n<li>Have ability to establish and maintain sound relationships with stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to travel extensively across the construction sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Number of Positions:<\/b> 3<br \/>\n<b>Post location:<\/b> Each Engineering Technician will be based in each of the construction project sites; Kipkelion and Muhoroni, Kathonzweni, and Oyugis<br \/>\n<b>Terms of Appointment<\/b><br \/>\nThese are Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions, open to Kenyan nationals only.
