The University of Arusha, a Chartered Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher
\n<\/a>learningsituated about 30 km from Arusha city, off the Arusha-Moshi highway, is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified individual to fill, with immediat<\/a>e effect, a vacant position in the Directorate of Finance.<\/div>\n
JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING (DFA)<\/b>
\nThe Director of Finance and Accounting (DFA) of the University shall be appointed by the
\nUniversity Council in consultation with the Vice Chancellor and the Chair of Finance and
\nDevelopment Committee of the Council.<\/div>\n
(a) Qualifications
\nHolder of full Accountancy qualification and must be registered with NBAA as Certified Public
\nAccountant i.e. CPA (T), ACCA, ACA or equivalent plus at least 5 years work experience in a
\nsimilar position.<\/div>\n
(b) Remuneration
\nThis will depend on whether the person recruited is employed on church terms or on fixed-term
\ncontract terms. Nevertheless, an attractive package awaits the right candidate for the job.<\/div>\n
(c) Work Relationship:
\nHolder of this position is responsible to the Vice Chancellor through the Deputy Vice
\nChancellor for Planning, Administration and Finance.<\/div>\n
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
\n(i) Head of the Finance Directorate of the University.
\n(ii) Ensuring efficient and economical administration of the directorate.
\n(iii) Prepares and consolidates the University\u2019s Financial Budget and Cash Flow projections.
\n(iv) Consolidates the University\u2019s projected Financial Statements.
\n(v) Preparation of detailed monthly and quarterly Financial Statements and sources and
\napplication of funds statements.
\n(vi) Custodianship and controller of the University funds and physical resources.
\n(vii) Custodianship and controller of the University income generating projects.
\n(viii) Ensuring that accurate and comprehensive information pertaining to finance is promptly
\ncompiled and submitted as required by superiors.
\n(ix) Maintaining and controlling expenditure within the Approved Budget.
\n(x) Maintains proper records of all University incomes and expenditures.
\n(xi) Responsible for and supervises the implementation of on-going University projects.
\n(xii) Advising the Chief Executive Officer (VC) on the implementation and status of all
\nUniversity projects.
\n(xiii) Advising the Chief Executive Officer (VC) on optimum insurance cover on University
\nfunds, physical and Human Resource.
\n(xiv) Maintaining an up to date University\u2019s assets register.
\n(xv) Ensures the maintenance of all records pertaining to the University\u2019s accounts to
\nfacilitate the auditing or University\u2019s books by the Internal Auditors, External Auditors,
\nand other relevant regulatory authorities.
\n(xvi) Ensures timely payment of Creditors, Salaries and Statutory obligations and maintaining
\nbooks of accounts on the basis of accounting principles.
\n(xvii) Appraises staff performance in Finance and Accounting Directorate<\/a>.
\n(xviii) Advises the Administrative Committee on University income and expenditure on a
\nweekly basis.
\n(xix) Keeps the Chief Executive Officer well informed about all Financial and Accounting
\nmatters.
\n(xx) Does any other duties as may be assigned by the superior office from time to time.<\/div>\n
