Such gift aid falls into one of three categories in the Yale financial aid award:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/costs-affordability\/types-aid\/scholarships-and-grants#YS\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yale Scholarship<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/costs-affordability\/types-aid\/scholarships-and-grants#merit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">merit-based scholarships<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/costs-affordability\/types-aid\/scholarships-and-grants#entitlement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">entitlement grants<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>U.S. veterans and service members may also choose to use their military education benefits at Yale.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/costs-affordability\/types-aid\/military-benefits-and-financial-aid\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Military Benefits and Financial Aid<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a class=\"ext\" href=\"http:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">VA Education and Training website<span class=\"ext\"><span class=\"element-invisible\">(link is external)<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Yale\u00a0Scholarship<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"block-block-12\" class=\"block block-block block-12 block-block-12 odd block-without-title collapsiblock-processed\">\n<div class=\"block-inner clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content clearfix\">\n<p>Yale\u2019s need-based grant aid for undergraduates, the Yale Scholarship, is a gift and thus never has to be repaid. If a student is awarded financial aid, the Yale Scholarship amount is included on the Financial Aid Award Letter.<\/p>\n<p>The Yale Scholarship can vary from a few hundred dollars to over $70,000 per year; the average Yale need-based scholarship is over $50,000. For additional statistics, see\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/costs-affordability\/affordability\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Affordability<\/a>.<\/strong> Area Yale Club awards, endowed scholarships, and other gift aid from Yale\u2019s alumni and friends may be used as grants in place of some Yale Scholarship funds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Merit-based\u00a0scholarships<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"block-block-13\" class=\"block block-block block-13 block-block-13 even block-without-title collapsiblock-processed\">\n<div class=\"block-inner clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content clearfix\">\n<p>While Yale does not award merit-based scholarships, Yale students often qualify for merit awards from other organizations. Criteria for receiving merit scholarships are directly linked to a student\u2019s performance in academics, sports, music, or another field of special interest. Potential sources for merit-based awards include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>private companies<\/li>\n<li>employers<\/li>\n<li>nonprofit organizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find resources to help you search for merit-based scholarships under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/applying-aid\/sources-outside-aid\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sources for Outside Aid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-block-15\" class=\"block block-block block-15 block-block-15 odd block-without-title collapsiblock-processed\">\n<div class=\"block-inner clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content clearfix\">\n<p>We encourage you to pursue outside aid awards, which can significantly reduce or eliminate your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/award-letter\/financial-aid-terminology\/student-share\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Student Share<\/a>\u00a0amount (see below). All outside aid that is paid directly to Yale is included on the term bill as anticipated credits, thus reducing the amount due.<\/p>\n<h3>How merit scholarships affect the financial aid award<\/h3>\n<p>For students on financial aid, outside merit scholarships may reduce their<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/award-letter\/financial-aid-terminology\/student-share\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Student Share<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0Amounts that exceed the total Student Share\u00a0reduce\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/award-letter\/financial-aid-terminology\/yale-scholarship\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yale Scholarship<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u21d2Please note: Some merit scholarships, such as the Gates Millennium Scholarship and NCAA Grant, may also cover the cost of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/award-letter\/financial-aid-terminology\/yale-health-hospitalizationspecialty-coverage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yale Health hospitalization\/specialty care insurance<\/a>. If allowed by the awarding agency, a merit scholarship may also cover the cost of a computer for incoming students whose outside aid exceeds the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.yale.edu\/award-letter\/financial-aid-terminology\/student-share\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Student Share<\/a>. Yale University Scholarship is open to any national.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Required Language:<\/strong>\u00a0English.\n<ul>\n<li>TOEFL\u00a0scores of at least the following:\n<ul>\n<li>100 on the internet-based TOEFL<\/li>\n<li>600 on the paper-based TOEFL<\/li>\n<li>250 on the computer-based TOEFL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>IELTS\u00a0scores of 7 or higher and Pearson Test scores of 70 or higher.\n<ul>\n<li>For more information, check\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.yale.edu\/applying-yale-international-student\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You are enrolled in or eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch program (FRPL).<\/li>\n<li>You have received or are eligible to receive an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver.<\/li>\n<li>You are enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).<\/li>\n<li>You are a ward of the state or an orphan.<\/li>\n<li>Your annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.<\/li>\n<li>You live in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home or are homeless.<\/li>\n<li>Your family receives public assistance.<\/li>\n<li>You can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counsellor, financial aid officer, or community leader.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>How to Apply for Yale University Scholarship?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Following things are required with the Yale University scholarship.
