Its mission is to contribute to Sub-Saharan Africa\u2019s expanding role in global development through increasing access to higher education abroad. We support orphaned students who are committed to returning home and initiating change, by providing access to full financial support to study at a university abroad (equivalent to an undergraduate degree). Ashinaga support covers tuition, accommodation, travel costs, and other necessary fees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Have lost one or both parents;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\">Have completed secondary school and passed national secondary school examination (technical and vocational degrees not accepted) within the last two years (any date after 1<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" data-fontsize=\"10\">st<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\">\u00a0September 2017, including all of 2018 and 2019) or will have completed secondary school and received final exam results\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\">before February 28<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" data-fontsize=\"10\">th<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152991974 BCX0\"><a href=\"httpss:\/\/www.unistoretz.com\/magazine\">,<\/a> 2020.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW152991974 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Were born after 1st September, 1997;<\/li>\n<li>Have an outstanding academic performance at high school and were amongst the top students in their class;<\/li>\n<li>Be committed to returning home, or to Sub-Saharan Africa, and contribute to society in Sub-Saharan Africa after graduating from university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See the full list of requirements\u00a0<a href=\"httpsss:\/\/www.jotform.com\/AshinagaAAI\/AAI_2020_Registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Documents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a list of the documents you will need to submit as part of your application.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copy of birth certificate of applicant.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of death certificate of deceased parent(s), including the deceased parent\u2019s name, or alternative official documentation proving death of parent(s) or orphan status.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of national ID card or passport.<\/li>\n<li>Copy of term reports \/ high school transcripts (from the last 2 years).<\/li>\n<li>Copy of final Secondary School Examination Certificate*<\/li>\n<li>Copy of academic transcripts or diplomas from university\/post-secondary institution, if applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* For students receiving their examination results after December 13th 2019 and before February 28th 2020 we will ask you to send your examination certificate if you are selected to progress to the second round of the application process<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"httpsss:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- 2019-CreativeAD --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4564014896468666\" data-ad-slot=\"8884173138\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Selection<\/h2>\n<p>Applications for Anglophone and Francophone countries are open between\u00a0<strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0September \u2013 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0December 2019<\/strong>. Successful applicants will be invited to a second application round in late January which will be open between 28th January \u2013 28th February 2020. This second round will include additional questions and essays to help us better understand your leadership potential and how you intend to use your university education to help others\u00a0in the future<a href=\"httpss:\/\/www.unistoretz.com\/magazine\">.<\/a>\u00a0Successful applicants from the second round will be invited to\u00a0an assessment day in April 2020 where Ashinaga\u00a0conducts individual interviews and sets an examination to better understand students\u2019 academic abilities and career goals in Sub-Saharan Africa. Students must bring all original academic documents and identification documents to the interview. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from the application process.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligible Countries<\/h2>\n<h3>Anglophone Recruitment (<strong>September 2nd to December 13th<\/strong>)<\/h3>\n<p>Botswana, Ethiopia, Eritrea, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius*, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles*, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan,<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong> Tanzania<\/strong><\/span>, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are three ways to apply for the Ashinaga Africa Initiative, although we prefer online applications or those sent by email. There is no application fee, and you must never pay anyone to apply or to apply on your behalf. Applications are now closed.
