President Magufuli launches Muhimbili Mloganzila facility

President John Pombe Magufuli has said that there will be no additional compensation for the 2,530 residents of Kwembe who were directed to vacate the area to make way for the construction of a campus for the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Muhas) at Mloganzila on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam city.

Dar es Salaam. President John Pombe Magufuli has said that there will be no additional compensation for the 2,530 residents of Kwembe who were directed to vacate the area to make way for the construction of a campus for the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Muhas) at Mloganzila in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam city.

He said this Saturday, November 25, when officially inaugurating the new Mloganzila campus located at Kibamba along Morogoro road. Construction of the facility – which has the capacity to accommodate over 500 persons at a time – started in 2014 at a cost of Sh206 billion.

President Magufuli said evaluation of the available land was conducted in 2011. Three plots were identified as being suitable for the project, and a total of Sh9.6 billion was paid out just as soon to all those who deserved compensation in the Kwembe and Mloganzila areas.

“I knew there would become people who would later come out – including some politicians to call for more payments in compensation. I want to make this absolutely clear: there’ll be no more compensation, we have already closed that process,” the president laid it on thick.

He further said that there were only two people who have not been compensated, and their payment is ready for them to pick it up at the relevant offices.

By way of explanation and avoidance of any doubt, Dr Magufuli said that the compensation that was paid out is for farm crops and property, NOT for the land, because all land belongs to the government in the first place!
